SENTIMENTAL SUNDAYS

Welcome to Sentimental Sundays Challenge!

Please read the new entry rules.
I've also included a tutorial.
Thanks so much!

Thanks to everyone who played along in last week's "Snow, Blue and/or Glitter" challenge.  There were so many entries...it was exciting as a Design Team member to see all the entries, and how beautiful they were and how original each one was.  We all really enjoyed seeing all your entries! Be sure to stop back at Sentimental Sundays on Tuesday and see who our random winner is and who has been chosen to be in our Top 3!

This week's Sponsor is:

Fred She Said

Fred She Said Designs offers a wide variety of digital products with a floral flair and cute characters too - digi's, pre-colored images, papers, sets, and Fred's flower kits.

 Have some fun with Fred!

This week's challenge is:
Ribbon
(plus a sentiment)

So you understand, as a Designer, we have to pick a template/design from the sponsoring company and work with that design...I picked these adorable chicks.  Sometimes it is a challenge, other times a breeze.  Hmmm - you tell me!

Now, For your entry:  We have some new Rules - SORRY!
We are now ONLY allowing you 3 entries per challenge, if you have more than 3, they will be deleted.  Sorry about that changes, but we want to give everyone a chance to enter and have their creation stand out as one of the considerations for the top 3 or FAV as well.  Thanks for understanding.  We know some of you are very avid crafters and that this will be a change!

Please take a look at the Design Team's Inspiration while you are entering your own card; they have worked really hard to give you a stepping stone, if you need that - otherwise, just enjoy what they've come up with.  Having said that...  I hope you enjoy my FRED SHE SAID stamp.  The SENTIMENT is my own from stash.

It is SO ironic, because on another team (Stamping with the Dragon)  where I design, the leader's son is waiting for his own chicks to hatch - it is now day 14 so any day.  I sent him this picture!  The lady's world...hmmm...don't know how that went over so I sent it to his mom, who is really the custodian of the to-be hatchlings.

This pic is to show you what I did with the ribbon.  It is easy shmeasy.  You put scor tape, or that red tape all the way around your base.  Then you start with your first piece of ribbon.  Put down about 1/2 inch then put a bit of tape runner in the fold and roll over (as above) the curl.  Go straight for the same amount (it will stick to your scor tape, and put another piece of tape runner in the fold (straight piece) and roll over again.  Just keep repeating.  Hopefully the up close pic will help.  If not, just email me.

Here is my fav. chick from FRED SHE SAID.  Isn't is Just squishy cute!!!!  I love those cheeks.  The Egg-ceptional (one of my sentiments) is from a set from Stampin' Up!

Another placement of my ribbon was to use my huge punch tool (oh what is it called - the pink one) and punch holes in all the FRED SHE SAID images (yes - you get them ALL with the set - unbelievable eh!) and at a VERY inexpensive price!  Then I chose different ribbons to put in the top.  I sponged all the chickies.   Oh, I think they are called Chickadees - but since it is a Lady's World they are Chickies!!

Now, looking sideways, this is what you see.  I also want to point out where the "fold" is where I put my tape runner.  Do you see the piece right in the middle where the two folds are standing up straight?  In the middle, I am calling "the fold"  That is where you put the tape runner (the rest, as you can see, is sticking to the score tape that is all around the cardboard covered in yellow Bristol board.  Then I make a roll and pushed the roll down and it "stuck" to the tape runner in the fold.  This may be a more "clear" example.  I think it is.

This *yuk* is what the back of the project looks like before you put on the "card" pieces.  What you do is "fold down" the pieces of the chicks that are standing straight out and put on your co-ordinating two piece card.  The chicks will be the front of your card, and you have a piece of the card covering this "mess" and it opens for your writing.  THIS is a card you "hand deliver" and it is something that will sit on a table at Easter time!

In order to not waste ribbon, I always choose to put both of my ends through the hole to the front and tie my bow at the front without a knot first.  It saves about 1/2 inch = which means alot to me * chaching!  Just tape the ribbon on the back.  I also put pearl pins on the front and tape them on the back for safety.  Now, when I plan to give this at Easter, I will also "back" all the chicks to add a finished touch to the chicks...as this looks kind of shabby - no REALLY shabby - and NOT shabby chic or chick!!!

This is my sentiment from another card.  I really love it.  I used it on last year's Easter Card, which is a hoot.  If I have time, between 9 DT, I will post it.  My Chick is wearing galoshes and carrying an umbrella but dressed up very girli!
What I did here, to make sure it would stay, and not just balancing, is to put some 1/8" scor tape (I have all the sizes from 1/16" to 3?) on the very edge of the sentiment card.  I then attached it to the inside of the ribbon.

And Voila!  Although, I think this looks more like a CAKE than a card!  But what the hay, it is something different.  Oh my gosh, I totally forgot to tell you.  In the beginning when I was placing everything deciding what to do, I literally threw lots of prima and basic grey (of which I seem to have collected a bazillion) onto my project *which is 1 foot by 3/4 foot.  In order for them to stay in place, I used tons of Gesso.  I literally poured the gesso on the project (before the chicks were back on) and then I poured fine beads on as well.  When it was nearly dry, I added pearls (only a few.)

And that is it folks!
